I am not as turned off as you, but there are many things that I am sure that we could agree to hate in contemporary culture:-)... My favorite aria from anything is from the Passion, "Mache Dich"... I gave up on classical music stations a long time ago. My particular breaking point was Handel, endlessly playing the "Water Music"... I take it you haven't made Mama Ayesha's... Johannes, the principal thing I do in New York (almost upon me) is go to the Met, the MOMA, sometimes the Guggenheim, and sometimes the Whitney. I go to almost every show at the National Gallery, and many at the other museums in the area (including the two major art museums in Baltimore). I love the stuff, and I am trying to teach my son to love it... I consider the Brother's K to be the greatest novel ever written. You are right about the allure of the description in C&P... I think that you are right about the scene being in Karenina, but it has been a few years...
