Mark,

The possibility of a bail out has occurred to me too. The acquisition suggests a possibility, at least, that they have changed their direction from the role of a purist pursuit to promote abundant amounts of dark fiber, which is a strategy that has been their single-most brilliant contribution to date.

While I've followed somewhat closely in certain respects the company they've acquired (ABOV), and I believe that they are an excellent choice for anyone involved in Internet private peering and aggregation (in order to relieve the NAP and other meet point congestion problems that currently exist) I have to wonder about what this portends for MFNX's previous core business strategy.

ABOV, if nurtured and grown properly, could turn out to be on a par with a LVLT type of company, given all of the fiber swap deals that MFNX has cut in the recent past, and their recent colo strategy with the RBOCs. But it would require altering, perhaps radically in parts, the original philosophical direction of ABOV which is predominantly vested deep in the original mystique IMO of the Internet doctrine which may be just a tad too egalitarian for immediate profitability. I can envisage a couple of desktop family photo collections and other office rearrangements taking place, in this regard.

ABOV's philosophy may require at least a modicum of additional commercialism, if they are to quickly transform into something that will add significantly to MFNX's bottom line.

On the other hand, ABOV has some rather ingenious ways of handling their customers' flows and business relationships, which could simply be a sign that they may be just little bit ahead of the curve in many respects. The jury is still out, from where I sit.
