1.Why is it difficult to use? The software scans your address book and tells you which of your contacts also use Zix. It generates a unique private key that only works with your signature line. As far as I can see, the only extra step when composing or reading an e-mail is in having to enter you signature line. Everything else is done automatically.

2. I use Linux but I use Windows NT for e-mail etc. I guess they will not be missing too many customers with just a Windows version.

3. Zixmail works with Hotmail. Sure you cannot use Zix on someone else's computer. Neither would I want to send or receive sensitive information using someone else's computer. The whole point is, you can stil use your regular e-mail systems as before, but you now have an option to send and receive extra-secure e-mails.

5. Do you have additional technical information on their technology? Any info will be much appreciated.

Hmmm.. just like I thought.. key recoverable...

Any key that is "recoverable" is breakable, by definition. And it's called the ninth technology!!

8th tech "ease of use" - means Zix is another program, NOT as integrated into current email as thought.

7th tech "signature portability" - nothing new. And I trust other signatures better!

6th tech "worldwide encryption export approval" - we already covered this, the worldwide export was granted because the key is recoverable. NOT SECURE!

5th tech "compressing of attached files" - ok, this is nice, but do other peer to peer email solutions do this? (remember ZixMail only talks to ZixMail) Open standards can be a bear!

4th tech "HTTP/SMTP relay" - no comment, will have to see the reliability of their unproven servers, and internet connections.

3rd tech "automatic retrieval of the email
recipient's latest public key at the same time a message is sent" - again, new servers and i-net connections.

(side note: I did not think I would get to refute all of the points!)

2nd tech "certified time-stamp" - ok this is kinda nice, but hardly something that is new. The US postal service has been touting this tech for a year or three...(No comment on STMP, not the forum here!)

1st tech "centralized public key architecture" - Nice idea, but usless with a recoverable key. Anyone that is currently using public key technology is past this.

Anyone that is buying over the internet today has already accepted the risk, Personally I don't see my credit card number more at risk over current secure internet transactions than when a waiter/waiterss takes my card out of my sight for 5-10 minutes in a resturant. What is CUST offering? If I order a product, the vendor get's my name and address for shipping, and if overnight my phone number also! What else is left of my "private information"?

I'll save my $1 a month. :-)
