Correct that Reno could have fired him, and indeed should have if he was as incompetent/evil as the WH had portrayed. Perhaps the issue is how a WH needs to behave in the face of an investigation. If a WH believes an IC is "out-of-control" it has an obligation to dismiss the IC, rather than play politics. No more Lanny Davis or Jim Carville being paid to go on TV and trash the IC. No more WH press secretaries complaining about the IC.
