The new Lydstrom music storage device is very similar in concept to what we were discussing on this board on June 18, 1999:

We should demand some royalty payments from them for our ideas! (LOL)

(From the Lydstrom website:)

Lydstrøm's first product, the SongBank mz3-5000 represents the next generation of new media storage systems. It stands alone as the ergonomic media management device of the future. A next generation CD-player capable of storing, playing, and cataloging approximately 5000 high-fidelity songs, this product represents a milestone in efficient media access and playback.

The intuitive interfaces of the entire SongBank line are the basis of Lydstrøm's media management system; it is a source of copyright and design patent protections. Its search and cataloging features via our phenomenal RF touch-screen remote control allow for almost instantaneous access to your personal media collection at home without tedious data entry of song information.

Further, the unit is not a high-tech product for the exclusive use of high-tech people; it's designed for everyday use by everyday people. We created the SongBank line with the vision that in this day and age, form should follow function whenever possible. Anyone [from the novice to the keenest audiophile] can enjoy every feature with ease.

It can easily be integrated into your own stereo as simply as any common CD-player. Future products will use the core interface and will even have extensions for many additional devices. Architected for change, Lydstrøm's products keep simple integration and continuous
evolution in mind, and work symbiotically with most home entertainment and home automation systems.

OT: Speaking of Beta:

I think the Memory Stick is going the way of DIVX and Beta unless Sony announces a new capacity stick that is around 200 MB.

Until then, a Sony portable digital walkman would be inferior to the all other competitors. I doubt that Sony will use CF in its devices any time soon.
