That analyst don't know sh*t! WCOM is concentrating on data not voice! They feel data will be the majority of the traffic within a few years. There is no internet without a WCOM! So hwre is the growth supposed to be! He isn't lowering his expectations though. Just having his chance to say something negative so he can be heard on such a high profile stock on a high profile day of trading. Tomorrow -- or later today after 2:15pm he will be eating his words and telling clients to buy buy buy!

Analysts: tempest in a teapot?

Hi JM!

Re your: MCIWcom may see slower revenue growth this Q. May prevent them from beating expectations.

Yes. I think this hits the nail on the head. It's the fear of a lack of upside surprise that's driving the "analysts" portion of today's fall (as opposed to the "undersea cable" portion).

David Faber on CNBC just discussed WCOM. To the best of my recollection <g> he said that the PW analyst who started this is projecting 45 cents with little to no upside above that. And that the SSB analyst, Grubman (the axe) agrees with 45 cents but sees a possible upside.

The article in your post indicates the PW analyst said voice was going to grow 6% this Q, as opposed to 7% last Q and 8.5% Y-T-Y comparison Q. However, Faber says Grubman says WCOM is de-emphasizing voice and that the area in question only represents 8% of WCOM revenues.

Both PW and SSG are expecting 16% growth. Matter of the cup half-full or half-empty.

Best wishes,
Tom
