Pinnacle ships Thunder..............................newsalert.com June 29, 1999 19:12 Pinnacle Systems Ships Thunder Servers on Schedule; Shipments Now Underway for Two-Channel and Four-Channel Thunder Broadcast Servers Jump to first matched term MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 29, 1999--Pinnacle Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq:PCLE) today announced the first shipments of its powerful new Thunder family of broadcast video and audio servers, which were unveiled at the 1999 NAB Convention in April. Distributor and customer shipments are now underway for the two-channel Thunder MCS 2000 and the four-channel MCS 4000 servers, which are targeted at broadcasters, corporations, advertising agencies and post facilities. "Thunder has generated a tremendous amount of interest, so we're extremely pleased to deliver Thunder in the timeframe we announced at NAB," said Bob Wilson, Vice President and General Manager of Pinnacle Systems Broadcast Products group. "With the shipment of Thunder, Pinnacle has established itself as a player in the large and rapidly expanding server market. Thunder is especially significant for its ability to make its stored media available for browsing by hundreds of users simultaneously, over standard computer networks and the Internet. "With the delivery of our new broadcast server line, Pinnacle is continuing to expand our range of open digital networked solutions for broadcasters and video professionals," continued Wilson. "Our line of Broadcast Products now includes servers, stillstores, digital effects systems and character generators, which positions us as a major supplier to the broadcast industry. Through our Desktop Group, we also deliver a comprehensive range of professional solutions for nonlinear editing and DVD authoring." Architected to deliver 'next generation' advances in server performance, Thunder MCS 2000 and 4000 are fully symmetrical multi-channel servers that support the simultaneous back-to-back record, playback, storage and processing of MPEG-2 and native DV formats, without re-striping. 525-line and 625-line footage can also reside together on the server without re-striping the drive array. All internal processing is CCIR 601 4:2:2:4, with video and key signal recording on every channel. During the record process, Thunder servers generate high-quality, low-date-rate MPEG-1 "proxy" copies of all source material, which can be viewed over networked computers or the Internet. U.S. pricing for Thunder begins at $52,500. About Pinnacle Systems, Inc.
