<<Then why should I hate gold miners just because the metal is finding itself out without a proper role in the global financial system since we left the gold standard??>>

America left the gold conversion in 1971 - since that time there have been many instances where gold has been used as collateral for loans. You have a bias against gold - but seem unable to recognise that for many countries gold is still far and away the biggest reserve asset they have. Your approach to this is that they're dying to sell it - would sell it if only they could - yet you have no evidence to support this contention - sure some countries have sold and propose to sell - the IMF plan will probably fail - yet other countries routinely buy the stuff. You seem to see the whole issue in black and white - since there is no gold standard gold has no role in the affairs of nations - yet for most countries the gold standard ended pre-war. The gold reserves of the US are extremely important to that country - the British had to part with a substantial quantity of their gold reserves to pay for so called lend lease. The country was bled white by the war - and was not a benificiary of the Marshall Plan. The US owns much of the UK pre-war gold. d

Dent has compared the baby boomers economic impact to a pig traveling down the
belly of a snake. You just can't ignore their economic impact (but I'm sure you'll
discover a way...>>

Ron, isn't this a bit self-centured of Dent? Who really cares about American baby-boomers? In the big picture they are off the screen in the World Wide consumption of metals....Think about 1 bln Indians, 1.3 bln Chinese coming into the picture with breath-taking industalisation, road and construction development.....Ha, Baby-boomers ...
This is like Philip Morris is finished because Americans smoke less..Dah!

I say again:
Do you hate all metals and their producers or just gold & the gold miners?

<<Do I hate copper miners just because I think Fiber Optic bandwidth will ultimately make twisted pair copper absolutely obsolete??>>

Ron,
do you really think us so stupid as to believe this? Do you believe in the near future there will be no copper wire?
SIR, prove to me that 110V &220V ac will be carried to even 25% of our homes via fiber optics.
site your sources or leave.
Were you aware there are auto's on the road today with far more copper than steel?

Doesn't make sense, at least for now.

I live in Quebec. We eat electricity as we go through 5 months of harsh winter and the majority of households are copper-wired to Hydro-Quebec, probably the most reputable institution in the electricity generation business.

Hydro-Quebec stated it very clearly last year.

Their backbones are more and more fibers. But all local and residential developments will be copper. The costs are simply too prohibitive and are expected to remain so for decades.

I have no doubt that the same is true for developing China and India.

And what Ron are we to believe of this magic new world where there is a reduced need for every natural resource? That there will never again be an increased need for any natural resource"

Are you looking far enough ahead as to understand we are leaving the time of the internal combustion engine for use in personal transportation? Then we must ask what will be used to produce this power source? It will be the fuel cell. These fuel cell will chemically produce electricity from the reaction of hydrogen or a fossil fuel against a metal plate(there are indications the best are platinum palladium or an alloy of these with silver).

After this new technology produces the electricity, it must be transformed into a mechanical force.
To do this, an electric motor is required. These electric motors have COPPER windings! Multiply these many miles of copper wire by every auto on the road!

Were you even aware there is near no "pure gold play" among the producers near all produce SOME OTHER metal also?

You speak of me as inane? Then dare talk this trash to these people with a technical background? SIR, inane is an argument when you have no position worthy of support. Btw, most of these electric hybrid automobiles will have GOLD at many key connection points due to efficiency and
corrosion resistance.

When you look at a company or industry Ron, you should look at the possible overall bottom line with every possible change. I'm working toward a future not a present.
