Hi Keith, As follow-up to
"There are lots of days that I don't EVER look at the open or the close or any price in between! I don't need to, my business manager, AIM, takes care of all that for me."

Take yesterday as an example:
Got up and did some SI reading and writing.
Put on dirty clothes and went out in the garage to work on the power steering leak on the '61 Jag.
Repaired the lawn mowers and made them happy.
Mowed for about 3 hours.

"......Meanwhile Fed Chairman Mr. G is about to announce that....blah blah blah....."

A friend stopped over with his gorgeous Jag XK-SS he's just finished. He did a beautiful job with the car. It's BRG with a tan interior. However he hasn't looked at an SU carburetor for a number of decades! So, while Fed Chairman Mr. G was wowing the investment world, I was bent over the triple 2" SU's on the 4.2 litre Twin Cam XK engine!

First I checked that all three floats were set about the same.
Next, I set the throttle stops all to full close. Then released the pinch bolts on the throttle linkage and let them close completely. Retightened them.
Next, took off the tops and the pistons from the carbs and set the three Jets to flush with the throttle bridges.
Next set the Low Speed Idle Mixture to full closed on all three.

".....The markets were gittery right up to the time that......blah blah blah blah......"

I cut a piece of old garden hose about 18" long to use as a "stethescope" to listen to the "hiss" of the carburetors.

"......Traders worried that the Fed's raising of interest rates.... blah blah blah blah......."

Next I set the three jets down two full turns from the top.
I set the three low speed idle mixture screws to three full turns open.

"......Feeling that there might be some stability to interest rates for the near term...... blah blah blah"

Roger started the car up and it caught first tick.
By lifting the venturi pistons just slightly one can see if the Air/Fuel mixture is right, lean or a bit rich. In this case they were all still a bit lean.
I adjusted the low speed jets to get the same "hiss" from each carb.
Then it was time to play with the main jets to get them set to "just right."
Back to set the idle to a more proper and less busy setting.
Recheck the "hiss" and A/F mixture.
Sniff the exhaust to see if it's "sweet" or full of aldehydes.

".....The markets closed with surprising strength today after Fed Chairman ....... blah blah blah"

So, we hopped in and took it out for a "test drive!!" The thing idles nicely at about 900 rpm (it's still in the "break in" stage), has gobs of torque and Go Fast!

Now that's a fulfilling day for a private investor!!! I ended up with more net worth at the end of the day than at the beginning. I also ended up with dirty fingernails and a couple of cold beers over at Roger's house afterwards.

Best regards, Tom
