Estimated $4.35 Billion in Ecommerce Sales at Risk Each Year
Zona Research Report Reveals Consequences of Unacceptable Download Times

Redwood City, California, June 30, 1999 – Unacceptable download times will become the downfall of ecommerce if online vendors do not pay attention to the "eight second rule." "The Need for Speed", a
report released today by Zona Research, an IntelliQuest company (NASDAQ: IQST), examines why Web page loading times directly impact the ability to conduct business over the Internet including why
the standard for Web site download times is now eight seconds. Primary research by Zona Research reveal that over a third of Web users may simply give up trying to buy an item over the Internet when
frustrated with an online shopping experience. Zona Research estimates users' frustrations could result in as much as $4.35 billion in United States ecommerce sales being at risk each year due solely to
unacceptable download times.

"Using an industry-first economic model, we estimate approximately $362 million dollars in ecommerce revenues could be at risk of being lost each and every month because of the impact of unacceptable
download times," said Jack Staff, Director and Chief Economist, Zona Research. "The projections of our model show these losses could significantly impact the future of ecommerce if online consumers
become so frustrated they revert to shopping at traditional brick-and-mortar stores or decide not to purchase online. Online companies need to develop strategies and tools to avoid these potential lost sales opportunities."

Significant findings from "The Need for Speed" include:

Currently, 44.1 million people in the US are online shoppers. An additional 37.5 indicated they will become new online users within the next 12 months -- sharply increasing the potential for ecommerce revenues.
Shoppers with 14.4kb modems who are unable to load web pages within eight seconds represent at risk losses to ecommerce vendors amounting to over $73 million a month in ecommerce sales.
An estimated $58 million a month in ecommerce sales will be lost due to Web page loading failures.
$3 million is at risk monthly in the securities trading industry due to unacceptable download times.
Over $2.8 million is at risk monthly in the travel and tourism industry because of unacceptable download times.

"The Need for Speed" summarizes critical Web user preferences and tabulates the economic impact of "bailout rates." With the advancement of technology, the increase in Web traffic, and the desire to place
more visually appealing content on Web pages, the consequences of slow load times often result in a significant loss of revenues for online vendors. In a world where Web users are becoming accustomed to
quickly pointing and clicking to get desired results, slow load times pose a sizeable economic risk that Web sites ignore at great peril to their bottom line.
