Steve, RE: which sector(s) would you buy now ?

FWIW, I feel that the best opportunities to get in near ground floor now are in the murky area of DVD and Bandwidth including chips, cable, phone, fiberoptics, mem storage etc. Sort of a "semicable" sector, or better still "Soxaphone"<g>.

To this end, I own CUBE leaps-a dvd chip play, just bot ESST today at 13 11/16 -another dvd chippy thing(and momentum play).

Have followed HLIT (Harmonic Lightwaves-a fiberoptic tech cable play) for the past 9 months from 14 to now 54!! but alas never bot :-(

Am now researching NTRO a comming bandwidth IPO (don't know when) and have decided to track PAIR thanks to its high BAMBI F/A score (courtesy of the ever reliable MR B). Though I wonder about its high speed copper wire orientation when cable is the wave of the future. Perhaps Berney would be so kind as to explain PAIR's plusses.
They report earnings same day as INTC I believe.

Most of these choices are somewhat long term, however, and since I concur with Berney that this most likely a July only rally and I agree with Gersh that there will certainly be a millenial fear sell off in the second half of this year, my longterm plays are mostly Jan 2001 leaps. While a Y2k dud event(business as usual) could spark a huge rally in Jan 2000, the 9 month Naz cycle supports a March 2000 rally. OK OK enough of my blah blah blah.

As to the sector choices that you mentioned, I am still afraid of DRUGs as they seem to join the NUTZ as first to be punished in a return to P/E sanity. But if I were to trade one it would certainly be MRK as it now seems to defy its index.

Higher interest rate environment makes me leary of financials but again C is in defiance so maybe.?

The one that is most appealing on your list is T which is showing IMO some real technical strength and surprises in the PHX.X are most always pleasant.

The retail sector is always goofy to me, ie. when the greatest bricks and mortar retailer WMT picks BAMM (a distant trailer to AMZN when it comes to losing money with books and cds) for its etailing and people go nuts.

Re the TXX, I always liked Chris's little pal XLK, might put the kids through college if I bury it and leave it alone.(^_^)

So for now I'm slippin and slidin in the oil patch holding some CRK that I got for "free" in an earlier profitable trade and looking at DO as short term options or perhaps a weekly stock trade. Makes me a "week trader" I guess.:-)

Happy Holiday to the Dudes! And Steve, make sure you have an adequate # of Gin and Tonics before you tackle the crude.

Thanks again,
-John
