I signed their petition, and for committing this grievous sin, was later subjected to an FBI investigation (during the Nixon regime).

What a scary moment. I can't believe it happened in this country. I refuse to sign any petition for the democracy movement in China, afraid being detained when I visit there.

It's a shame that the US can't seem to learn from its foreign policy mistakes. Both Noriega and Sadam were on the US payroll, our overlooking what the son of a b*tch does as long as he is our SOB has to end.

Merritt,
You are a victim of the rewrite you mention. Castro was a Marxist from the start. He hid it well so we would not help Batista. Its really strange that almost 45 years after the fact they are still defending their revolution. A good thing which everyone embraces should not require the police state mentality to preserve it.I do however think that the embargo is long overdue for cancellation. If Cuba was exposed to the rest of the world it would change. My solution is to offer them a major league baseball franchise. All will be well when the Cubans have their own little Ted Turner. Heck lets throw Hanoi Jane into the deal. A sure winner. <g>
