>>#1. I don't advocate my government advocating any religion. The discussion centers on a proposal to post (nothing more) the Ten Commandments in the schools. This is an idea I have little trouble with.<<

But commandments #1 and #2 advocate religion: don't have any other gods and don't make and worship idols. If your government posts commandments #1 and #2, they are advocating a certain kind of religion (or perhaps condemning certain kinds of religion).

>>Perhaps the posting will engender discussions such as these which are at least as good as reading about millions of homeless people who don't exist and the other liberal pet causes of the day. Hell, maybe the little darlins will even think a thought or two.<<

I frankly have no idea what is read in American schools, but this is changing the subject a little, no? We're moving from what is posted on the walls to what is assigned in the class-room

>>#2. I can't argue with your interpretation however, I think we need to look to the text and try to apply the words to our daily lives hence my thoughts regarding $$$$.<<

A worthy endeavour. My point is merely that some texts are easier to do this with than others and the Ten Commandments is in fact a lot less straightforward than it seems.

>> Now let me be clear. I disagree whole heartedly with your position but I do believe you have made a logical case for yourself and I appreciate the exchange.<<

Thank-you for being clear, though I can't help but wonder whether it is my whole position you disagree with or only some parts of it. I too have enjoyed the exchange: it is my opinion that the best discussions are between people that disagree, provided of course they do so with civility.
