I don't consider your note spam, not at
all, and thanks. Wonder how the advertising
thing will shake out however--I should think
a person would prefer not to be targeted by
tailored adverts. For my free internet
account I had to answer questions, so that
that the adverts could be tailored for me.
Pretty sure I told them that I have a lower
income than reality, and that I have no interest
in consumer electronics--I don't need temptations...

In fact, my logic was turned around. Bring on
the feminine hygene ads, they're much easier to ignore.
Likewise, I love adverts for Lincoln Towncars, vitamins
and viagra--I hardly notice those.

Thank goodness my teevee is not smart enough to show me
scantily clad women drinking cold ale--worse, a perfectly
rendered nude version of my favorite actress/models
selling locally brewed India Pale Ale--I'd be helpless!
{for my wife...thank goodness the singer Sting is not
selling European vacations...)

The level to which an advertisement would have to
be tailored to be truly effective would require
incredibly intrusive data gathering don't you think?
No reasonable person would give up these secrets?

Of course I am way oversimplifying. It is more than
just showing attractive images to hold your attention.
Any image will begin to lose your interest after one
or two viewings (hmmm, maybe not, I've saw The Phantom
Menace four times...I guess it depends. Sunsets are good
for one a day, every day).

Some of the comedic adverts from Europe or Australia are
pretty good...but I'd prefer just to filter all adverts out.
Besides, I don't think I have ever bought something based
on an ad--shopping is mainly inconvenient, and I pretty much
buy only what I need, and is also unreasonably discounted.

Would that Allen invests in IATV! Charter set-top boxes are General Instruments, use Wink and Worldgate, which do not necessarily compete with IATV. Since IATV is so cheap now, you would think someone would buy it. Perhaps at Sun Valley? Malone will be there.
