hi ck,

maybe you can suggest a remedy for something that just began on one of my machines. i had nu4 and nav5 on it, and i noticed that the windoctor redlight was on and that it sounded like it was continuously scanning. i'd run windoctor and no errors would turn up. but the scanning noise kept up from the computer. i tried running defrag and the optimization and scanning kept restarting.

since i wanted to upgrade to systemworks on that machine like i have on the one i use most often, i figured this would be a good time. i uninstalled all norton programs. the continuous scanning stopped upon removal of nu.

i installed systemworks2.0, hoping that the slightly advanced windoctor scans would find something new that was causing this bug. turns out that i did find a few extra errors (some active x stuff) but the redlight windoctor alarm still won't go off (turn green) and the puter keeps making the constant scanning noise.

i visited symantec's knowledge base today and found a few things to try. but i thought i'd run it past you in the meantime?

thanks for any thoughts...

:)
