Human motivation is far too complex to be reduced to greed and fear, or to the pursuit of pleasure or avoidance of pain, or to the love of God and duty, or the pursuit of sex or truth. The beauty and greatness of man IMO opinion lies in the unpredictability of individual motivation. What makes a Balkan girl spend her life in caring for the dying? What makes an Austrian Catholic boy attempt to conquer the world? What makes a German Jewish boy spend his life trying to understand the functioning of the universe? What makes a Chinese boy want to revolutionize his society, while millions of oppressed people starve quietly. Individuals have changed the world, and rarely in those great people does one see a trace of material greed or a flicker of fear.
