Well...

Talk about being torn about this game... Brazil will always be my all time favorite, men or women, they invented the jogo bonito.

Yes, I admit that I only saw a summary of the game, but on the other hand you can not excuse the fact that the Brazilians did not score a single goal.

The Brazilian goalie did slip, but the American striker was there to realize.

Do you know that most of the best "gifted" strikers usually seem to be "lucky" yet the real fact is that most of this strikers have the "wisdom", "eye", "gift" --call it what you will, not everyone has it... and in the end, you win a match --and a World Cup, by scoring more goals than your opponent.

The point being here that you can not win World Cups with "hopes" expectations" and "almost made it" You win World Cups with goals and the US got two today... the Brazilians none.

Yes, I agree with you, they must improve their game to win the final, and by the little I saw of the crushing defeat the Norwegians suffered at the hands of the Chinese, they better do what you suggest, otherwise they are "cooked rice"...

Nevertheless, The US won.

As for Christmas gifts.... I am not sure, however, I will grant an Oscar, on the second goal <g>.

George on the first goal, remember this is the womans' league and
the goalies are not as perfect as for the men. The crashing header was a feat worthy of praise even if it were in the men's game.

I agree completely regarding the second goal, and the fact that it was not brought up by the ESPN announcers - the replay was shown only once, although it clearly show Mia (her hips) behind the defender and lurching. This goal was all-important to the game as it took away realistic hope for Brazil, whereas otherwise they were more likely to tie the score.

I heard today the Brazil team is complaining about that call and roughness: They should just stick with the penalty kick, for which they have a case. My own hero of the game was Michelle Akers for obtaining a yellow card - violating the sanctimonious "no fouls" rule advanced, at least verbally, by the US side. "It is a far better thing to have fouled and won, than to lose and not to have fouled at all". Not to be dangerous or anything, but at this level they should be playing on the edge. We should see a lot of fair contact in the final and some should spill over from both sides to the foul.
