chalu2,

Are we all stupid for doing this? I cannot accept that people who would lead us as Commanders-in-chief do not have the character of the men in my family I tell my children stories about.

Are those who served stupid?? Absolutely not. My father was in WW2 in Germany ,and you know what? My father was the FIRST one wanting me to join the National Guard. My number was so high I would not even have been drafted.

But a war time record does not make you a good leader necessarily, so you should not make that the only factor when voting for someone. Look at AlGore. Would you vote for him just because he was in Viet Nam? I had some friends that went to Viet Nam and came back, and I still would not vote for them for dog catcher!!hAhaha

So I see you were too young for Viet Nam. What branch of service did you join to serve your country during peace time?

dan

Granted, the ideal situation is that all men of fighting age should voluntarily join in the defense of their country but, it just don't happen. That's the only reason there was ever a draft in the first place. The National Guard may be used by the Governor of a state to aid in disasters and crowd control or control of looters but, the guard does not belong to the state. It is a part of the armed forces held in reserve until needed. GW was not out of harms way regardless of what you think. TD
