Pat,
Obviously, you think National Guard duty was a way of not serving. That is simply not true. First, they had to attend extensive basic training. Then, these guys had to attend weekly, biweekly, or monthly meetings. Plus, two weeks each year was spent in maneuvers doing whatever was asked. They did serve. Not true for Clinton. He simply evaded it.

Regarding network news. Did you know that Rick Kaplan, president of CNN news, is a friend of Clinton's. Did you know that CNN is forbidden to use any derogatory term, such as the word corrupt, when referring to the Clinton's or the current White House.

I guess you refuse to believe any story until it appears on the network news. What about Juanita Broadrick? I guess that did not happen since only NBC dared to report it. Btw, did you know that NBC deliberately held that story until AFTER the impeachment hearings were over. (How is that for manipulating the news?)

As far as Socialism or Liberalism, what is the difference if you exclude free enterprise from the discussion? You people do not want to call yourselves Socialists. Why? Are you afraid of being exposed as to your true beliefs or intentions? I will suggest a book for you to read by a reformed liberal that might help:

INDEPENDENCE DAY...BUT WHO CARES?

Excerpts from NEALZ NUZE by Neal Boortz
Monday, July 5, 1999

The 4th of July, Independence Day, has long been a particularly irritating holiday for me. So many people enjoying the outdoors, having barbecues, playing in a lake or river somewhere watching fireworks, eating their hamburgers, singing patriotic songs.

Big deal.

The fact is that the vast majority of Americans pay only superficial lip-service to the idea of freedom. Sure, we all learned in grade school about the Founding Fathers and their struggle to gain freedom from British rule, but those lessons are long-forgotten.
It's all show now. All show and no substance. All of this "independence day" nonsense over the weekend is nothing more than words. The average American no more wants freedom than he wants a poke in the eye with a sharp stick.

Just take a quick look at some of the things that have been happening!
The aftermath of the school shootings in Colorado and in Georgia has seen lawmakers scrambling to place further restrictions on our Second Amendment rights. The House may have scuttled one proposal a few weeks ago, but don't think for a minute that the debate has ended.
An article that appeared in yesterday's papers reports that more Americans are in favor of tighter governmental control over the nation's news media. (More below.)
Georgia Senator Max Cleland actually introduced a bill in the Senate to give law enforcement agencies the power to seize your assets if you're unlucky enough to be carrying more than $10,000.
Our days of independence are numbered unless we pull the emergency brake.
Some ask what will it take for the American sheeple to wake up? I frankly don't think they WANT to wake up.

Let's just change the name.

Let's get rid of the Independence Day holiday and replace it with Security Day! The love of security is stronger than the love of liberty in the United States in 1999, and this new holiday would be a guaranteed success.

We could have a wonderful celebration of all of the different ways the government protects us from the chaos of freedom and embraces us in the protective wings of government-provided security.

LISTEN TO THIS FROM THE DUMB MASSES

Perhaps you know --- though probably not – that journalists in other countries around the globe have died, been tortured, or disappeared because they dared to print the truth about their governments. People in other countries have learned the dangers of having the control the sources of information.

But what about attitudes in the United States? This great and wonderful bastion of freedom! This incredible beacon of liberty for the whole world to follow!

Well, in the United States 53 percent of the people polled said the American press has too much freedom. Are you listening? Over half of our people think the press in the United States is TOO FREE!

Another 49 percent of Americans couldn't name any specific freedoms the First Amendment guarantees. Things like freedom of speech, freedom of the press, freedom to worship God --- and almost one-half of the sheeple couldn't name one!

And --- get this! Only 65 percent of Americans think the press should be able to run a story without prior approval from the government. This means that over one-third of Americans think that the government should be the ultimate censor of the media.

Yeah ---- happy Independence Day.

HELL, AT LEAST HE SERVED

The media is really after George W. Bush on his service in the National Guard. They're looking for some favoritism. Hell, at least Bush served. He didn't lie and manipulate to avoid service in the armed forces. He will, though, be held to a higher standard than Clinton because he's not a Democrat and he's not a liberal.

<<<<As for your comments about the mainstream media, let me point out that, for all its faults, it at least
has a level of peer review that enforces, at least in the long run, some degree of responsibility.>>>

Is this why NBC, CBS, ABC viewership is down over 50% from the 70's?
