Not bad levy.

Kaamaaina (sp?) rates are yours if you have a Hawaii drivers license (I've still got mine) :*). Some places will also take a military id card (active or retired).

I've enjoyed some of those "semi-private" beaches past the "no rental car" signs that you speak of. A 1-mile hike across a lava flow, and there you are. Black sand surrounding a open-sea aquarium (actually, a lagoon). Awesome! The place I go is not well known, even by the locals, and is very special. Certain landmarks must be watched for in order to find this place, and I'll ensure that all GNET'ers that show up in Maui will get a copy of "The Map" that will guide them to it.

Thanks for the reminder about Makawao Steak House. I'll call them today.

909's,
-Joe

levy, thanks for the travel guide. I've printed it off for our family trip to Maui in Aug.

Am also psyched about the bike ride down Haleakala. Is snorkling off Molokini worth doing (looks like a lot of boats there). Where is the best snorkling on Maui in your (or anyone's) opinion?

Mary, maybe we should start a 'Tenting at Mary's' list? I want to be sure I get a spot! <g>

Puna that Wailia Grande place is really a rip...I just checked their prices and its about twice what I paid when I stayed there....new owners I guess need to recoup buy price although I can't believe they could fill all those rooms at those prices....I will check out the place next door to see if that is still an option and then there are those kamaini rates...what do you need to get those again I forget...was it a Hawaii license or what?

Aloha, just now getting around to reading this thread.

The Sunday Travel section has a special rate for Kama'aina. Grand Wailea is $165.25 per person...includes roundtrip air fare from another island, 2 days car rental. And yes Kama'aina must show a Hawaii drivers license to receive benefits!
