John, where have you been the last couple decades? Do you ever hear about baseball, football or basketball moms? Soccer is the biggest growth sport in the nation, and has been for some time. You can either focus on the past and present, or focus on the future. I'll stick with eeln, hsac, gnet and exds over intc and msft, thank you very much. <g>

>>I'm a sports fan and soccer isn't on my radar screen.<<
Go to the womens final this weekend @ Stanford stadium, you'll see it's on the radar screen of thousands of screaming fans. Albeit most of them will look awful Macho. Have you ever been to a LPGA, or Major ladies tennis championship? We have one coming up here @ La Costa in only a few weeks from now. Don't take your wife or your girl friend, they might get stolen. My gal stays locked up until it's over.

Our best athletes go where the money is. Basketball, Football, and Baseball. Golf and Tennis get more attention here.

I am well aware of such fact, and if I were in their shoes, I would do the same. It is "the invisible hand of the free market".

The money is there because that's where fan interest is.

True, it makes sense.

I'm a sports fan and soccer isn't on my radar screen.

Well... I guess I will feel sorry for you... <g>

Having said all of the above...

The way soccer will become more popular, to the level of other countries, is by making it popular amongst the children. It has to "grow from within you".

This will happen [indeed, the process has already started], because:

1. Soccer is immensely more popular amongst children than it was 10 years ago. This will translate in better players and hungrier audiences for the sport.

2. Soccer Moms are about [hopefully] to become the Women World Cup winners... July 10th. mark your calendar, ESPN. USA vs China --final. As a result, most of these Soccer Moms will guide their children towards soccer. Believe me.

3. Latin population is growing at a tremendous pace, faster than other groups... [at least in the Western states] --almost like rabbits, you see, many of them do not understand TV so imagine what they are doing....

Oh.. and don't believe government statistics, most Latins [particularly the illegal alliens], won't tell you all the truth about the number of children they have.... <g>

Most of these children, are soccer enthusiasts.

4. The US Soccer team (the boys, now), have come a long way in improving their game, unfortunately, last year, you just happened to have a Super Moron as head coach...

But the desire is there already... it is just that the boys Cup, is a hell of a lot more difficult and competitive to win.

However the team is full, (both women and boys), of extraordinary athletes.

Don't worry.... it is like the Borg, it is futile to resist... you all will succumb.

* Faster than Football. [and a lot prettier too]

* More exciting than Bore-ball [what isn't ?]

* Requires more skill than Basket-ball [no need to be a giant either]

* More civilized than Ice Hockey [you hit a player, you are out for the game and more]

It is futile to resist embrace it, you will enjoy it. <g>
