CE is here now and vendors don't need to waste time in a committee setting defining protocols because MSFT will supply them.

Windows CE may be here today, but the Palm OS is outselling it massively. And a lot of developers are gettin' tired of MS "standard-setting" -- like a Java Virtual Machine that's buggy. SUNW disappointed many of us on the way they handled microjava with 3Com -- and even MSFT, of all the improbable whiners, carped about the lack of openness. But overall, it's still a far friendlier and more open architecture for developers than WinWorld. The micro Java VM runs in 114 kB. The Java sandbox avoids the sort of problems that the lovely integrated MSFT apps cause -- like worm and Melissa. A lot of people are waking up and smelling the coffee.
