Yeah, they have so many causes to choose from these days. And it would one or the other. And there's invaribly someone, or some people, on the sideline urging them on while denying their own desire for violence. Often times the one's who commit the acts strike as me nothing more than dumb pawns, shaped and set into action. Maybe more of Lather's "adaptives" will develop. It'll be a very tough evolutionary task to weed out violence.

Yep. Testosterone run wild. I do wish we could keep these guys alive to experiment on. I think testosterone causes violence based on penetration -- spears, swords, and pistols. Male animals -- even young ones -- often have a powerful mount and penetrate reflex. The tendency to attack women is possibly linked to the copulative effect. Racial hatred is really something poorly understood. Many males prefer outgroup women -- at least for casual sex. This might lead to fights with outgroup males. The mythology of lynching in the South was strongly connected to "protecting Southern white womanhood" against sexual attack by blacks or even Jews. (The Mary Phelan-Frank case in Atlanta in 1913 is a recently dramatized example). Antisemitism is very ancient -- at least to Persia, Egypt and Babylon. It was built into Roman behavior before Christianity became important, but it is bizarre that people who claim to be Christians sometimes act as if Jesus hated Jews, instead of trying to save them from death or damnation by dying for them.

Just a few days ago a couple of teenaged girls attacked a woman who was complaining that their car was blocking her way out of an apartment complex. They threw her to the ground and smashed her head repeatedly against the pavement, and last I heard the woman was in critical condition in a hospital. Wouldn't it be awful if women are less violent due to socialization, and started behaving as violently as men do? But I think it's anomalous for women to behave like that. I hope.
