Many people will want to be totally out of the market right before the end of the year. Also, many people will cut back their stock exposure a wee bit as a fire insurance policy so to speak. It is this careful second group that scare me, not the people who want out of the global economy we are now in i.e. people who think we will go back to the stone age-they don't contribute that much to our economy anyway. This carefulness of the safe second group is what will hurt stocks (esp. if we all do it a little bit-I mean what's the harm?)

The problem is when EVEN WE DO IT just a bit to reduce our long term holdings.
"Controled panic" will be the words of the moment. The stock market will tank big time i.e. a great buying opportunity will present itself in the last week of the year. HOWEVER, MOST PEOPLE WILL NOT SEE IT THAT WAY AT THE TIME!!!!!!!! Understand?

So why not take a big risk and put half of one's cash into stocks you like on the last trading day (i.e. LAST 20 MIN.)of the year! Now that will (believe me)take guts! If Y2K is not a big deal, you have done well as the market will take off UP big time right after people realize that one's water and electricity work and McDonald's still serves lousy food, and the kids still get toys with their happy meals.

IF the first reports of the press during the first day or two of the new year are negative i.e. the sky is falling, then take a second big risk and dump (LOL, I mean BUY stocks at great prices, with )the rest of one's cash reserves during the first or second trading day of the new mill.

FEAR is what the crowd and some of the press will have lots and lots and lots and lots of. Going against the crowd is where the values are. Any thoughts from any of you?

BOB MARTIN

P.S. IMHO I believe the fear of Y2K is much, much bigger than the reality. Some third world countries will have MUCH bigger problems than the good old U.S.of A. We will survive and prosper! Think Harry Dent.
