It would appear that I've seriously misjudged the utter power of the tobacco lobby relative to the NRA.

NRA is attracting undesirable public attention, which ultimately will be their undoing. It's more likely to mobilize that majority which is being harmed by their action than it is to keep the vested interests of the minority firmly in the face of the legislators.

Tobacco, on the other hand, seems to have done "their thing" quite effectively without any fanfare whatsoever. To the extent that they continue to execute so brilliantly, their future will be as bright as their past has been, if not more so.
