Thanks for the no-box option. BTW I agree with RTev almost completely. And it is much harder to make a case for a new feature than to argue about reverting to an old one, unless you are familiar with UI design, so I suspect you will continue to hear more about how something was better in the old site.

However, then RTev made an eloquent argument for remaining "boxless", and other members chimed in as well (both publicly and privately), so we decided to make it a customizable option.

Thanks Bryan. (And let me apologize again for my peevishness last night in a too-late posting when I first heard about the box.) I think this kind of customization is just the thing needed to help people feel comfortable with the new site.

I continue to enjoy and appreciate this new design and many of new features. It's clear from the comments here that all of us use our machines in different ways. My method is to have dozens of windows open at once on a big screen. Almost all my browser windows are set to about 640 pixels wide. One of the things I've noticed is that it's very easy to spot the SI window even if only a sliver of it is showing. And it's easy to find even if it's on something other than a message page. That's good design.
