AUSTIN, Texas, Jul 07, 1999 (AP Online via COMTEX) -- Republican
presidential frontrunner George W. Bush today named Michael Dell,
chairman of Dell Computer Corp., the nation's largest direct seller of
computers, to chair his advisory council on high technology.

Other advisers on the nine-member panel include Tom Engibous, president

The Texas governor has called for freeing Internet sales from duties
and tariffs, creating a permanent federal research and development tax
credit, and pledged not to raise federal personal or corporate taxes.

Bush has proposed intensifying efforts to combat intellectual piracy
and called for lifting the cap on the number of high-skilled workers
allowed into the country under so-called H-1B visas.

Also named to the advisory council were James Barksdale, managing
partner at The Barksdale Group; Carol Bartz, chief executive officer of
Autodesk Inc.; John Chambers, president and CEO of Cisco Systems;
Richard Egan, founder of EMC Corp.; Ray Lane, president of Oracle; and
Steve Papermaster, head of Agillon.
