No. We don't "persecute" Livingston or Burton because they don't LIE ABOUT IT UNDER OATH. I despise him because as a lawyer myself there is NOTHING a lawyer can do which is so sleazy as to lie under oath in a judicial proceeding, lie to the Court and to knowingly submit false evidence in the form of "cooked" affidavits. The man is lower than pond scum. JLA

<<Now I'm not defending Bill Clinton, if only because I think a President has to rise to a higher standard than the average Joe Citizen.>> Average Joe citizen does not represent you when he speaks. Bill Clinton does. Average Joe citizen doesn't have a residence and a role that is underwritten by a vow of trust he gave to you, Bill Clinton does. Average Joe citizen doesn't champion the American cause of Freedom and Justice in the Nation that the world came to count on in world affairs, the president does. Average Joe citizen doesn't lie to my face and continue in a trusted dependency, bill clinton has. What average Joe citizen does isn't usually used to for every other citizens behavior, the condonement of the presidents behavior is.

<<I do think that the basic root of Clinton hatred is his politics, not his personal behavior.>> Not for me. The people condoning his behavior have said they think the economy, political platform (his stand on abortion), and their personal comfort with the state of the nation is what counts. They don't want to rock the boat or make any particular efforts toward change.

<<We Republicans don't go around hating Bill Livingston or Dan Burton for their adulteries, do we?>> I am not a Rebublican but I don't think that view is universal.

chalu2, I think you make a valid point that a lot of people choose to overlook. Although, at this stage of the game it's very difficult not to become cynical.

A.) I despise Clinton;
B.) If he were merely an adulterer, I would despise him less, and would perhaps even find him sympathetic (he is married to Hillary, after all);
C.) I thought he was smarmy pretty much from the start. There are plenty of people with similar politics, some more liberal, I would prefer to him.
