You don't remember Senator Buckley. James was a down to earth guy who did not and does not have the patrician manner of his famous brother or of pedant Moynihan for that matter. James' Connecticut home was in Sharon. James now sits on the second highest court in the land - the DC Circuit Court of Appeals.

Moynihan is reportedly a well-know alcoholic and if so there is little doubt that the Clintonistas have leveraged that. His fleeting act(s) of political courage have always been followed by major acts of cowardice and opposing HillaryCare certainly wasn't one of the former - he was protecting NY's interests and therein his own.

As for (lack of) genuine political courage, George Will wrote an article on why he had lost his deep respect for Moynihan over the Senator's temporizing and then dissembling over the necessity to remove Clinton. You see, Will had him on video tape and he could not believe the in-your-face about-face that Moynihan performed. Moynihan fully disgraced himself and sullied whatever reputation he had had.

btw, Moynihan promised if re-elected in 1988 that that was his last race. He probably had a blackout on that one too.

>>He had that patrician air about him that does not sit well with us ordinary New Yorkers; and having an apartment in Manhattan whilst living in Greenwich does not make you a native

Well, now I can tell you. JFK2 was building a mansion in my home town, a place the NYTimes calls "the ultimate exurb". Would that have disqualified him from NY office?
