"policymakers and analysts who follow what is being said by the vocal minority that dominate the scene (As someone said, "Let the people lead; the leaders will follow"). So what is being said on the message boards IS of significance." Now that's a laugh. Most newsgroups and message boards serve as a venue to vent one's hatred and venom. Only a tiny fraction have sensible posts or atleast something without profanity and racism. But you insist that what is said on the net "IS signigficant !!!" Maybe you are right. Maybe it's pakistan who's policy is based on messages on the net. That would explain it. That or them being plain idiots. The vocal minority don't dominate the scene in india but maybe in pakistan. " Nope, as far as defense matters are concerned, now that Pakistan has achieved nuclear parity, India is is NO LONGER superior or secure." Read Sartaj Aziz's comments on a recent ineterview with the BBC ("Nuclear weapons for pakistan is a deterrent to india's superiority in a conventional warfare.") That's why pakistan refuses to sign the no-first use doctrine. If they did, it would revert back to the old days of pakistan getting it's rear end whipped every time they got up from kneeling down. From what you say pakistan thinks it is at the top of the world because it has nuclear weapons. Nothing is more further from the truth. For a country that is at the brink of financial disaster (come end of july without western aid pakistan will default) it's either humiliation or self destruction. " India is not superior in terms of human development either. " I didn't say that. I said indians have done well. I'm fully aware about where india figures. I'm proud of what indians have achieved in the 50 years since independence but what has pakistan to show for that. A begging bowl. While on that topic maybe we should talk about what pakistan has achieved. Maybe instead of venting your venom, and drowning yourself in your anti-indian tirade you could berate pakistanis on their lack of achievements, lunacy, financial bankruptcy, ..... " Wrong. Pakistan will use nuclear blackmail to good effect. " Sorry. Nuclear blackmail has landed pakistan in a hotter spot. Read the "irresponsible statements" that world leaders have accused pakistan of making and Sharief's subsequent backtrackking statements. Nuclear blackmail did'nt do any good and in fact it dented the credibility of pakistan. " India can NEVER again cross the LoC without inviting the possibility of a nuclear strike by Pakistan." Not never, and as I said before, crossing the LoC is close to or an act of war. As the civilian/army leadership has said, a decision will be made on crossing the LoC when the time is appropriate. Right now pakistan is being snubbed by all the countries I would expect india not to do anything that may change that opinion for now. " So, unlike 1965, India can no longer cross over to PoK and "punish" Pakistan. " Punish Pakistan ? We humiliated pakistan. Remember 92,000 pakistan prisoners and the begging bowls. " the "Hey, we'll nuke them and destroy them, so what's there to worry?" variety. " Again, the net is not the world. But if your perfectly happy with accepting what they say as official indian policy you are welcome. " So, you think India too should create an Indian market for US goods? Well, good luck trying to take that one past the "swadeshi" fruitcakes of the RSS, VHP et. al.! :-) " No, I think india should open up it's economy even more to other countries. That brings competition, which brings better goods. It doesn't mean that indian companies will be replaced by foreign companies (look at how well foreign companies have fared in india against local competition. But for pakistan they still have to buy INDIAN goods. Now that's a situation. Pakistanis cannot get enough of indian goods, music and movies. :) As for the VHP,... idiots are not the sole bastion of pakistanis (either way indian idiots are still smarter than pakistanis :) ) " That's what you brag about. The reality is that India's nuclear, space, and missile sectors have received ample assistance from Canada, Europe, Russia and the US. Don't forget that India got hold of radioactive material only because of President Truman's "atoms for peace" program. " Of course I'n proud of what india has achieved in the last 50 years. What it now has is a well trained and large scientific and technological base. We don't have to rely on other countries unlike pakistan which needs to purchase even paperclips. :) The assistance from canada, europe and the US was during the laste 60s and the early 70s. All of that stopped after 1974. (the year when bricks were an epidemic in pakistan... people were just crapping bricks. :) ) AFter 74 much of the achievements came WITHOUT assistance from the west. In cases where the west was helping, india while working with them on teh civilian aspects, converted them into dual use without the west knowing. " Do you know that ISRO's space programme is saddled with the highest launch failure rate in the world?"trajectory.grc.nasa.gov In the last 10 years 6-7 Successes against 3 (failure and partial failures). That's incredible considering the achievements they've made. " And do you really think that the present sanctions imposed by the US is going to make it better? " Sanctions have slowed things down, but the sanctions are being lifted slowly, and now with pakistan's misadventure it will be even more quickly lifted.
