Hello, Johh. You are correct-in fact, banking is the farthest ahead of any industry, except brokerage houses. But, name one major bank anywhere in the world that is complaint, with 3rd party verification?
WITH LESS THAN 6 MONTHS TO GO!

I suggest you study the cross-fault cascade potential, then contemplate how many other computers the banks interface with, ad naseum, point is- how many computers up, down and cross-stream have to function properly for a given bank to even stay open, much less be able to access your own account.....the odds against may be staggering.

There are sources warning of potential banking disruptions during GPS rollover (non-comp receivers) in Aug, as well as 9-9-99.

Where will you be more likely to access your money AT ANY GIVEN TIME- at a given bank or at home with fire/theft potential?

John -

banks are somewhat farther ahead than most industries in fixing the problem

Absolutely. Banking is the last industry to worry about. Because the banking industry is actually regulated, a whole slew of regulators have been pounding on the banks since about 1995.

The tone of the memos from the regulators has been candid & direct..."If we find the CIO in charge of your Y2K project Mr CEO, that's a BIG RED FLAG that you're not taking this issue seriously enough!" Message being... get your butt out of the penthouse & get to work!!

And on the other hand, the banks have done a totally terrible job of actually informing the public about their efforts & progress. Most effort I've seen is for the ABA (American Bankers Association) go after the KIA & Polaroid ads that were poking fun at Y2K. Very dumb.
