Rande,

Been a lurker for a while and appreciate your posts.

In regards to MP3, there is no way the record companies can destroy it. With the advent of mass cable/dsl access MP3 will grow enormously. There are "ripping" programs.

These programs can rip the "info" off any cd and convert it into MP3 format. Then a user just downloads the file from an unknown ftp site that requires a password and login. Presto MP3 songs of anyone for free.

Any move by the music industry to kill MP3 will juts add fuel to the fire. Hackers and tech savvy individuals use MP3 for fun but if the record industry challenges them then they will lose. I think the only move is to embrace MP3. But charging a minimal amount will work.

The average Joe does not know how "rip" mp3 files. Thus, the music industry has a fighting chance.

Best regards,

IcyGual
