If you're happy with Backup Exec, there's no reason to look
into scripting, zipping, or anything else that I can see.

I haven't used backup exec, but it ain't cheap and they
have a reputation for screwing you with upgrades. This
is hearsay (except the ain't cheap part <g>), but as
I can see a clear path for my needs that leaves me in
complete control, why fiddle with it. I have four
systems to do regular backups on; another reason
not to have to pay rent to a vendor if I can
avoid it.

I have not got
on well with other backup systems in the past (MS, Norton,
and Colorado), another reason for me not to be
very interested. Besides I have a bunch more uses
for scripting than just backups.

But all this is me. If Backup Exec does what you want,
well good. I'd look into its CD-R, CD-RW capability, though.
For backup exec, CD-RW makes good sense if it can handle
the medium.
