hi brad,

re: "the response has been overwhelmingly positive"

as john kennedy used to say... "let me say this about that".

i can see where a goodly number of respondents felt that as SI members, they had no choice but to take what was given to them, so they might as well try to at least provide positive input in the hope of influencing the next version.

please point out to me if i have erred in this assumption. were members ever given the hope of retaining the original format? did you ever say, "tell us what you think, and if you don't care for it, we'll scrap the whole idea"?

if it's correct that you never did anything except ask for feedback on impending changes, then i submit to you that some of the "positive" responses are little more than attempts to make the best of a bad situation.

:)

Hi Bryan,
Since you appear to be tallying votes, let me vote for the classic SI site. Furthermore, based on the feedback I've seen, it is my impression that 90% of BrowseMaster users prefer the classic SI site over the beta site.

Regards,
Craig

Bryan, nice to see you posting and responding here. You have probably heard these recommendations already, but here you go just in case...

1. Why do we have only one day of trading activity posted at the bottom of each persons stock talk link? In the classic format we could readily see 4 days worth of activity. Why shorten it? There is plenty of room.

2. The border is missing from the "Subject" area of your favorite links, causing the separation of threads to look disjointed. Same thing in "peoplemarks", however, the lines are less disjointed. My recommendation....Bring back the borders, you may be able to make them lighter and thinner than before.

3. Portfolio tracking is also missing the borders, but you have chosen different backgrounds to differentiate the stocks, why the inconsistency? Standardization and consistency adds to cognitive understanding. I would also justify the ticker symbols to the left, instead of using centering.

4. The bookmarks name has changed. It's now called "SubjectMarks". If your going to change a major link name such as that, I recommend you add a small red name under it called "bookmarks" to ease the transition. For whatever it's worth I would have used the term "Favorite Threads" instead. Giving it that special SI term "Thread" and binding it with the explorer term "Favorites".

5. The customize section needs some overal instructions on the initial page.

6. I miss the cool SI logo picture in color in "StockTalks". I recommend you move the search function justified to the left and add back the cool SI talk picture in the gray area across the page to the right. Shoot, that picture is practically an SI trademark! It's on my tee-shirts and everything. Why abandon such a compelling image??

7. The navigation scroll is an excellent feature.

Best Regards, Michael

Are the private messages dropping the very last character of the post? (if the msg fills up the screen). Stupid, I know, but since I end with a quote sometimes that I have linked to a hotkey I know it isn't me.

I must say I really dislike the new "beta" format for viewing messages. Messages are too close together and you have to read the entire line from left to right to find post#/what/who/when.

I vote fot the old format where all that info is neatly positioned at the left hand margin.Oh and by the way I also dislike the color shading of every second post that you have copied from Yahoo boards.Yuck:P

Anyone else?

p.s. if it ain't broke..why fix it?
