Is WCOM a bet on xDSL?

As I understand it, WCOM's future growth depends in large part on continued growth in their data transmission revenues. As the world begins to the slow switch to broadband, however, some will choose cable and some will choose xDSL.

Straight to the point: If cable wins over xDSL as the dominant means of connecting to the internet, won't that significantly hurt one of WCOM's biggest sources of profit and revenue growth? Alternatively, wouldn't dominance from xDSL mean WCOM would be rolling in the money hand over fist?

IF this is true (and by all means tell me if it's not), then have any of you long-term WCOM investors taken steps in your portfolio to cover the cable-end of the broadband revolution? Just curious.

Thanks,

Andrew Danielson
