Diamond, "1 of 100 own a computer".
This statistics obviously contradicts
the other statement:

"6 people would possess 59% of the entire world's
wealth and all 6 would be from the United States"

It seems highly unlikely that those "6" people
do not owe a computer to manage their wealth.

Dear Diamond: 52 would be female
48 would be male
Sounds good to me, every little bit helps my odds. JDN

Diamond,

I believe I saw that Stanford study many years ago, maybe longer.

The ratio today is significantly different.

However, keep in mind that the ratio of computer owners would always be limited by the number of illiterate people (in this study 70%) and people in poverty (80% in substandard housing).

Which means that absent any MAJOR demographic and wealth changes (which will take decades to effect), the world market for computers is probably capped at about 20% of the world's population.

And I don't believe that the top 6% of asset owners in the world ALL live in the United States. (Rough estimate: US is no more than 10% of the world's population. For the statement to be true, 60% of these would need to be richer than ANYBODY else anywhere else. Clearly not true.)

Bottom line is outdated and suspect numbers, with no information to back them up, from a person who is trying to make a political point.

I ignore this stuff.

However, an interesting factoid (which I believe still does hold true) is that more than half of the world's population has never made a phone call...
