Worker Makes $118,000 In 'Psychic Stock' Calls

LOS ANGELES (Rooters) - A janitor in the Los Angeles County Mental
Health Department pleaded guilty Thursday to making 2,600 calls to a
''Psychic Stock Hotline'' on county phones over a two-year period, racking up
$118,000 in charges, prosecutors said.

DSGumby, 39, pleaded guilty to one count of grand theft on the eve of
his trial for 'Wild & Reckless Pooting' in Los Angeles Superior Court. Deputy District Attorney Robert Dver
said Gumby will be sentenced under a plea agreement to 30 days in jail - in solitary -
and ordered to pay restitution toward the phone charges at a hearing on July
16. He will also be placed on five years probation.

Dver said Gumby made most of his calls to the hotline on nights and
weekends between June 1996 and November 1998, using a computer to
bypass a county block on such numbers. He then claimed to be a Penny Stock Pro, selling his info routinely to Nasty Nathanc, and Foxy.

A routine audit picked up the calls and investigators traced them back to the
defendant's work area,"the pit," Dver said.
