Off topic -- telephone solicitation

I get people wanting to clean my ducks? I don't have any! The guy across the road has some, and they just swim around in his pond and keep clean on their own. Besides, wouldn't catching them cause them more distress than a bit of dirt?

What some people choose to do for a living!

Cheers, PW.

I like that! I've heard that cops suggest a police whistle for folks receiving obscene phone calls. Not bad!

To answer the question, it all depends on the salesperson and how persistant they are. More often than not, when a request is made for material by mail, especially confirmation of promises made, I never hear from them again. The thing is, if you just hang up, your phone number/ name never get removed from their "prospects" list. If you take the effort to run them into the dirt and make them invest some of their time and money, when the final turndown comes, you come off their list. Which ain't to say that it isn't passed to some other schmuck cold caller, but in my private crusade to finish supper in peace, I'm willing to invest more of their time than they are.
