I was driving along the freeway in Eugene (OR's second biggest city). You know how kitties hang out in the grass freeway edge there in cities cuz there's hardly any other good hunting grass? And every once in a while you'll happen to be zooming by right in time for the high arc pounce?

Well I looked over to see the kitty between the road edge and the fence, he looked pretty big and his darker fur stood out against the light grass ~ it was a fox.

I've never seen a fox in 28 years here in OR, so I figure they must be far out in the woods somewhere; and here is the first one I see, standing by the freeway in downtown Eugene.

I almost pulled over. (Didn't want to interfere, though.)I couldn't believe it. Even the ones we used to see in the wilderness in Cal were very shy. Red ones. This one was brown-gray.

I managed to stop in time once not to wipe out a whole fox family. 3 little ones were traipsing across the road. They were gorgeous, and such a great color of red.

All I see here are pigeons and squirrels. But they can be ok. Last week in the sweltering heat they were watering the park as I was walking home. I got pause and watch a squirrel playing in the sprinkler. He looked a lot happier than me at that moment.
