Something I find funny about the Californians that move here is the shocked look in their eyes when one of my kids ends up playing in their back yard! Or when I head down the street and see one of them pruning their yard and ask "can I get you anything at the convenient store"? They look horrified, or something! :-)

The other day, one of the new families came rushing up and asked if we could watch their 4 year old because she had to go to the emergency room with their other child. We said sure, and when she returned she just couldn't accept the fact that we didn't want to be payed.

The culture shock of neighbors waving to one another really throws them for a loop! I'm tempted to toss one of them the keys to our house next time we leave for a weekend just to see their reaction. :-)
