D: Re: "When a caller says they bot a new car, how come Bob never asks what the commission is or suggests a website that would help us learn about taking delivery without the help of a dealership? Forget about mutual fund loads, you can save 10% on a car, or close to it."

I don't recall too many calls to the show re the purchasing of cars and I certainly do not recall one re commissions to a car salesperson. He has talked about buying cars on the net.

Re: "I don't think it would be a stretch to say that Bob doesn't like brokers who sell loaded funds."

I think it would be more accurate to say that Bob does not think it is a good idea to buy loaded funds from a broker.

Re: "But when a caller says they sold (or bot) their house I have never heard Bob ask what commission was paid to the RE broker or suggest that he/she went and bot a new car (as opposed to paying a mortgage or the dental bill for the kids).

Sorry, I don't recall if Bob has ever had a queston on this point specifically.

Re: "Couldn't Bob suggest a website or a book that would tell you how to do "for sale by owner"? Why hasn't he done so?"

Yeah, what is Brinker's problem anyway <VBG>? Seriously, I am not sure he has ever been hit with a situation in the show where such a discussion would be at all responsive to the inquiry. I guess you would have to hit me with a specific call.

Did you check his website for the reading list?

Anyway, I do not know why Brinker has not addressed the issue unilaterally if that is your point. Maybe he has and I just don't remember it. But to find out his opinion on the subject, give him a call and be sure to mention our thread on the air and the fact that we sell houses every day at justabid.com <VBG>.

Just speaking for myself, I don't mind paying a real estate or stock broker's commission or car dealer's mark-up or any other type of sales fee when I feel that value has been added to the transaction by the person charging the fee. In other words, he/she has saved me time or money or found me a more attractive deal than I could have found on my own. But in the case of this caller, there was no value added, only value taken away. The guy was royally ripped off. I applaud Bob for exposing these thieves disguised as "financial planners" -- though as a long-time and regular listener, I admit the calls get a little tedious.

Paying a cardealer or real estate broker would be ludicrous if someone else offered the exact same service for free. This is the case with no load funds.

best...
