We've all heard the "Library of Congress coast to coast..." analogy before, but the entire library's ASCII data would also fit on a couple DVDs. Now, try sending hi-res VISUAL images of every side of every page of every book to convey the age, paper texture and feel of each publication in parallax 3D, and suddenly we're VERY short on bandwidth. Until we're all able to receive AND send full-screen, 30 frames per second video and clean surround-sound audio worldwide on a whim (wireless, a la Dick Tracy?...how about to retinal-scan glasses with MRI scanning to capture and broadcast your head in 3D so your buddies can walk around you as if you are there...), there ain't enough bandwidth...
