I would guess that GW's opponents are trying to link him with the oft quoted phrase made famous by his father. I believe that this is one of the main reasons that GW is not blurting out any concrete promises or statements on some of the issues. He doesn't want to make a stand unless he has studied the feasibility of his being able to back it up with action. His dad didn't want taxes to be raised , and did every thing he could not to let it happen but, as I recall, he was shoved between a rock and a hard place by the Democrat controlled congress, and had to break his promise. I don't remember the exact situation that caused the recapitulation but, it certainly turned out to be embarassing to the President. TD
