Let's check again in five years.

My prediction is that ATHM will swallow AOL in that time. AOL will fail in their attempt to force governmental mandate on the "open access" issue, and broadband will exponentially replace all dial-up access. Anyone who has broadband access would never go back. Two-way video conferencing with everyone else in the world and entertainment on demand piped into everyone's house through a broadband connection will leave AOL's e-mail and shopping nonsense in the dust.

Don't bet on it!!! ATHM has tremendous upside potential! I don't think you have the vision ATHM has!

Have you been using XCIT lately??? Try this:
excitextreme.com

Try the XCIT voice chat!

Try voice mail and Xcit Planner!

ALL FREE!!

Seriously TRY these and you WILL BE IMPRESSED!!! I PROMISE!!!!!

NO UGLY BANNERS! NO BS! Just pure WWW & with cable, LIGNTENING FAST!

XCIT will have the content and ATHM will carry it!!!!! ALWAYS ON! ALL THE TIME!

Three putt do you have cable???? Or are you another AOLer on WWWait?

Let me answer that for you! YOU DO NOT HAVE CABLE! YOU USE AOL FOR AN ISP!

GOOD LUCK,

Kevin

<!>AOL can and will swallow ATHM<!>

AOL is in trouble man. Take a look at Netzero. Free dial-up access. Now thats a big threat to AOL! The future of regular dial-up access is FREE!!!

The real war is DSL vs. cable. I don't see DSL being pushed the way cable is being pushed. In Los Angeles, the mail is getting bombard with pretty ATHM flyers introducing very cheap deals.

ATHM is better positioned than AOL here.

...and of course everything in my opinion.

Never Happen?

17 years ago there was Big Blue - King of Information Technology. Who heard of MSFT? Just look at their market caps today:

quote.yahoo.com

That is just one of dozens of examples of how a market leader can be taken over by someone who is just a little more hungry.

The challenge that ATHM has at hand is great. But to say it will never happen sounds like what IBM's top brass though in the mid 80's.

"ATHM has no chance of dethroning the king" that is to be seen; remember amigo, AOL was not even in the picture 7 years ago.

Right now AOL has the upper hand. A lot of big money owns AOL. (All those SP500 index funds - and we know that anyone who is big on Wall Stree has one of those S&P500 Funds). But imho ATHM has a trump card -Fast and reasonable priced internet. Could you go back to a 9600bps modem and a 486 machine after using your PIII 56K powered machine? Nope.

Today world changes at the speed of light.
