Harold,
I guess I just don't get it. It appears that Liquid Audio isn't having any problems getting content providers to offer them their product...based on actual sales numbers for LQID. Granted the piracy issue is there but my problem is that for a customer to utilize the WAVX system, they need to have purchased a computer with the devise installed, pre-send money to WAVX and have it stored in their account for debiting when they make a purchase. First of all, I would guess that the majority of music bought in this country is done by teenagers and I doubt they are concerned with issues of content piracy and I just don't see them pre-sending their money to a company when they can now buy this same music from companies like LQID or BlockBluster, etc. And again, if they want to purchase it with a VISA card they can do so and the content provider isn't charged a fee(for WAVX) that is many times higher than what he pays VISA.
But let me get back to your post about Wave offering content providers a lot more security than Liquid Audio. Regardless of whether an individual purchases a CD from Liquid Audio or through the WAVE method...what is to keep that purchaser from copying the CD and giving it to another friend? The difference that I see is that he(content provider) has given up more of his profit margin to WAVX than for the VISA purchaser and still faces the same problem.
I know I missing something in this issue....so any help will be appreciated.
