First Netbus, now BO, these programs once feared by computer security experts, network admins, and computer users, are now becoming legitament remote administration tools.

July 12/99
zdnet.com

Since these programs were first let loose into the public domain, and therefore abused by hackers, can we trust these guys who let their programs be freely abused?

Was their motive just to get their product known?

Netbus has neat features, listen remotely through a mic and watch through a video cam, cost is 15.00. BO is free.

I think it's better to stick with Norton PC anywhere or Carbon Copy.

Until major PC magazines, and security experts give these products the "A-OKAY," I personally will not use them. I would say use at your own risk.

Hey mark!

Remember we were talking about taking my new sporty mouse through the car wash and you cautioned me to remember to put the top up? Well, it works better with the top off! Go figure! This model (Logitech First Mouse +) has a screw through the bottom that allows the top to come off and makes cleaning the wheels real easy.

My mouse felt like it was rolling on gravel and I actually thought it was the mouse pad that was getting old. But when I looked inside the mouse I found the rings of crud around the middle of the wheels. It's amazing how smooth it works when it's running right.

Some mouse paraphernalia:

Don't forget, though, that the new Microsoft padless DSP mouse is supposed to be out in September (not cheap, though).

MM: Compared to what H Peterson is trying to accomplish, my problem is nominal, but...

Today I was clearing my C:\windows\temp folder. One of the files there would not delete and gave me an error message indicating that access was being denied. The file was created last night, Monday, at almost the exact time I shut down my PC.

The file is: WebPoolFileFile 1K

Opening it in Notepad shows:

MSCF ‹Z € 4 P Ï rb002.cab

Again, I am unable to delete this file because “Access is denied”.

Can anyone tell me what this is... and why I should have to keep it?

TIA,
JCC
