For Tag Switching support, the RSP card is required for the MGX 8800 series of switches and the TSC (Tag Switch Controller/7200
router in disguise) is required for the BPX family. Therefore, Yes, Cisco's TAG implementation does require add-on hardware.


We were talking about MPLS...not TAG...

MPLS in the BPX 8650 does not require hardware..just the right level of firmware in the BXM module.

I am NOT wrong... so there :)
