You've got to realize that quite a few people know little more about their PC than just what's needed in their job functions but occasionally toy around with icons or just plain get lost and panic. If the PC is shared with the children that "Network" icon is bound to be explored sooner or later expecting something magical to happen.

Dedicated VPN pipes utilizing PPTP are a possibility but they would probably be pretty expensive and encryption has a habit of adding a lot of additional processing time at both ends. Given time we'll start seeing these things emerging but in the meantime nothing is as universal, simple and inexpensive as the existing copper infrastructure.

Runs on most any platform, supports many different printers and displays. Be kind of nice to have the ability to convert Post Script to regular, especially nice to be able to grab the text content out of a .pdf file and convert it to ascii. FREE too. :-)
