Higher power / lower cost only strengthens the smart client model; not the thin client model. This implies there is a difference between the "smart client model" and the "thin client model". That's the first time I've ever heard anyone make reference to such a difference. Thin clients aren't dumb. They have to execute Java byte codes quickly and do a range of multimedia/DSP tasks ranging from minimal to fancy. Increased processing power helps all models and hurts none. It is bandwidth, not processing power, that helps the thin client and hurts the fat client. As to Xeons and Athlons: ho hum. Intel won't be an interesting player in the server game until the Merced/McKinley actually comes out next year. When they do get out with 64-bit hardware, Microsoft will lag them by at least a year. They'll have nowhere to turn to but Unix. Regards, --QwikSand
