Commerce Chooses MCI WorldCom as FTS2001 Provider; A Multi-year $100 Million FTS Selection to Provide All Telecom Services MCLEAN, Va., July 14 /PRNewswire/ -- MCI WorldCom Government Markets today announced it had been selected by the Department of Commerce to provide all voice, data, Internet and conferencing services under the FTS2001 program to the department and its 17 Bureaus. The selection has an approximate value of $100 million over the eight-year span of the program, should the Department of Commerce exercise all option years. The Department of Commerce joins a growing list of new MCI WorldCom (Nasdaq: WCOM - news) federal government customers under the FTS2001 program. Since Contract award, MCI WorldCom Government Markets has successfully competed to provide all voice, data and Internet services to the Departments of Interior, Agriculture and Transportation. The Department of Defense, the largest single user of telecom services under the FTS2000 program, chose MCI WorldCom to provide voice service in early March. Other agencies selecting MCI WorldCom include the Departments of Energy and Education for voice services and the Social Security Administration for data. In January of 1999 MCI WorldCom captured the second of two awards for the FTS2001 Contract. Under FTS2001, individual user agencies, such as the Department of Commerce, may choose from either of the two-awarded companies to provide telecommunications services to the agency. By selecting MCI WorldCom, the Department of Commerce will be able to leverage MCI WorldCom's unique local-to-global-to-local network for its substantial international presence. In addition, the Commerce Department also plans to take advantage of MCI WorldCom's cutting edge e-commerce solution, FTSNet, designed as a government e-commerce solution for order entry and network management. ''We've been building a working relationship with the Commerce Department for some time now,'' said MCI WorldCom director of civilian markets Tony Bardo. ''Our ability to provide global service on one network coupled with our commitment to customer service makes this an excellent fit for the Department of Commerce; we're excited to have them.'' Previously, MCI WorldCom Government Markets has been awarded contracts from various agencies and Bureaus of the Department of Commerce including the Bureau of the Census, the National Weather Service and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. ''MCI WorldCom's local-to-global-to-local proposition is ideal for government agencies with Commerce's international points of presence,'' said MCI WorldCom director for the FTS2001 program Rick Slifer. ''The Department of Commerce's selection for all services once again signals the strength of MCI WorldCom's international presence as well as its cost effective telecommunications solutions for government customers.''
